The history of Cubase until 2017

Over the years, Steinberg released several updates to Cubase that added new features and improved existing ones.

Cubase is a digital audio workstation (DAW) developed in 1989 by Steinberg of Germany. The first version, Cubase Audio, was released for the Atari ST computer platform. It quickly became popular with musicians and producers for its MIDI sequencing capabilities and audio recording capabilities.

Over the years, Steinberg released several updates to Cubase that added new features and improved existing ones. In 1993, Cubase VST was released, which added support for virtual instruments and effects. Cubase SX was released in 2000 and introduced support for multiple audio tracks, as well as improved MIDI and audio editing tools.

Cubase 4 was released in 2007 and introduced a new user interface and new features such as the VariAudio pitch correction tool and the Groove Agent virtual drummer. Cubase 5 and 6 were released in 2009 and 2011, respectively, and added more advanced MIDI editing tools, improved audio quantization and support for 64-bit systems.

Cubase 7 was released in 2013, with a new chord track and chord pads, as well as improved mixing and mastering tools. Cubase 8 was released in 2015 and introduced a new chord track and chord assistant, as well as a new drum editor and a redesigned mixer.

Cubase 9 was released in 2017, with a new chord track and chord assistant, a new drum editor and a redesigned mixer, as well as a new version of the VST instrument HALion Sonic SE. Cubase 10 was released in 2019 and added new audio algorithms and a new plug-in management system.
