RØDE Broadcaster: The Voice of the Professional
The RØDE Broadcaster is not just another studio microphone; it is an instrument refined for the nuances of spoken word. Since its introduction, this microphone has been found in radio studios and podcast setups worldwide because of its ability to deliver that coveted “radio sound”: a rich bass response, a detailed midrange and a silky smooth high. The Broadcaster allows your voice to rise directly above the mix or music, with minimal effort in post-processing.
Most important features
HF2 Large Diaphragm Capsule: A 1-inch gold-plated capsule that provides extremely wide frequency response and very low self-noise.
On-Air Indicator LED: The microphone features a red LED that indicates when the microphone is active (requires console or interface support).
Internal Pop Filter: Designed to effectively suppress “plosives” (such as p and b sounds) without an external screen obstructing your view.
Low-Cut Filter: A switchable high-pass filter (75Hz) helps eliminate annoying ambient and impact noise in the low end.
Rich “Proximity Effect”: Perfect for that deep, intimate vocal tone when you speak close to the microphone.
Rugged Construction: An all-metal housing that can withstand the daily intensity of a professional studio environment.
Why choose the RØDE Broadcaster?
Choosing the RØDE Broadcaster is a choice for reliability and character. Unlike general studio microphones, the Broadcaster is optimized to maximize the intelligibility of the human voice. This makes it perfect for live broadcasts, where you won’t get a second chance to get the sound right. The microphone offers the sensitivity of a condenser, but with the robust focus needed in a busy studio.
At i4studio, we often see the Broadcaster as the central microphone for professional podcasting environments where quality and visual presentation (no large external pop filter needed) go hand in hand.
Technical specifications
1. Does this microphone require phantom power? Yes, the RØDE Broadcaster is a condenser microphone and requires +48V phantom power from your mixer or audio interface to function.
2. How does the “On-Air” LED indicator work? The LED lights up as soon as the microphone receives phantom power. In professional studio setups, this feature can be controlled via specific circuitry on the console to indicate that the microphone is “live.
3. Is an external shockmount necessary? The Broadcaster comes with a sturdy ring-mount, but for optimal isolation from vibration (e.g. from a desk) we recommend an external shockmount such as the RØDE PSM1.
4. Can I also use this microphone for vocals? Although optimized for speech, the Broadcaster also delivers excellent results on vocals, especially if you’re looking for a clear, modern sound with lots of detail.
5. What is in the package? The RØDE Broadcaster comes with the RM2 ring-mount and a handy zippered case to store the microphone dust-free.
