Andrew says of the Switchable Insert technology, “For the first time ever, the iD48’s Switchable routing lets you choose which source feeds the ADC path. This allows you to choose per channel between the Audient Console Mic Preamp or a DAW output to send to your outboard – no hassle with cables. You can also bypass the Audient Mic Preamp altogether for a direct conversion path for recordings.”
The iD48’s impressive audio performance is due to the eight low-noise, low-distortion Audient Console Mic Preamps that deliver 68dB of gain. As is true of the entire iD series, the completely discrete, high-performance op amp design is the same circuitry used in the renowned ASP8024-HE recording console. “With iD48 we guarantee true analog Audient Console Mic Preamps on your desktop – no copies, no emulations and no gimmicks,” Andrew emphasizes.
Add to that 32-bit ESS DAC converter technology, designed to minimize quality loss while maximizing performance during conversion, resulting in a huge dynamic range of 126.5dB on the DACs, keeping subtle details audible.
The option to add up to 16 channels of external microphone preamps with iD48 makes it easy to expand a setup as needed. “Designed to grow with our users, iD48 offers the ability to add more inputs and outputs via ADAT, S/PDIF or SMUX – making your studio ready for the future and giving you the ability to handle demanding sessions with multiple microphones with ease.”
The Audient iD48 is not only a powerful audio interface, but also has all the capabilities of a professional monitor controller. “You can connect, listen and reference your mixes through the Main and Alt speaker outputs, or use the additional line outputs to send audio to an external headphone amp for distribution to your artists,” says Andrew. Two independent stereo headphone amplifiers also provide a dynamic range of 124 dB and enough power to support headphones up to 600 ohms.
