Rule the British Empire: The Universal Audio UAFX Lion ’68
For the discerning guitarist and producer, there is one sound that stands above all else when it comes to authority and harmonic richness: the “Plexi.” The Universal Audio UAFX Lion ’68 Super Lead Amp is the result of years of research into the most coveted vintage examples of this British icon. Where other digital solutions often fall short in “feel” and component interaction, the Lion ’68 offers an experience indistinguishable from the original circuit.
Three Iconic Amplifiers in One Housing
The Lion ’68 is not limited to a single sound. The intuitive controls give you instant access to three legendary configurations:
Super Lead: The aggressive, bright sound that laid the foundation for the classic rock-era. Perfect for cutting leads and powerful chords.
Super Bass: A rounder, warmer character with more headroom. Ideal for blues-rock or as an outstanding platform for your favorite overdrive pedals.
Brown: Based on the custom “hot-rodded” sound made world famous by Eddie Van Halen. Think extra gain, compression and that specific saturation every guitarist is looking for.
Scientific Precision in Speaker Modeling
An amplifier is only as good as the speaker it plays through. The Lion ’68 uses UA’s award-winning Dynamic Speaker Modeling. You get access to six perfectly microphoned cabinet combinations, ranging from vintage Celestion ‘Greenbacks’ to rare JB120 speakers. Whether you are looking for the ‘thump’ of a 4×12 cabinet or the richness of detail of a boutique setup; the sound is ready for your master mix immediately.
Seamless Studio Integration at i4studio
Within the philosophy of i4studio – where we strive to provide the perfect foundation for creativity – the Lion ’68 is an essential tool. With full stereo support and high-quality analog components, this pedal integrates flawlessly into your i4 Custom PC workflow. Record with the experience of a roaring 100-watt amp, while keeping your monitor system at a comfortable listening level. No microphones set up, no neighbor nuisance, just pure, uncompressed tone.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between the Lion ’68 and the Dream ’65?
The Dream ’65 emulates an American ‘Blackface’ Fender amp (clean, ‘scooped’ mids, lots of reverb). The Lion ’68 focuses on the British ‘Plexi’ sound (more mids, more aggressive gain structure and that specific Marshall grunt).
Can I use the Lion ’68 without speaker emulation?
Yes, through the UAFX Control app you can disable cabinet emulation. This is useful if you want to use the pedal as a preamp in the effect loop (return) of a real guitar amp.
Is the Lion ’68 suitable for high-gain metal?
The Lion ’68 goes from beautiful cleans to solid hard rock (Brown sound). For extreme modern high-gain, we recommend combining the Lion ’68 with a quality overdrive or distortion pedal, just as people used to do with a real Plexi.
Does the Bluetooth feature work for audio streaming?
No, the Bluetooth function is for the UAFX Control app only. It allows you to change settings, assign footswitches and load new cabinet models.
