The strength of the TB12-B lies in the switchable components at the front:
The Op-Amps: Choose the x1731 for a classic, saturated sound reminiscent of vintage consoles, or the x918 for a faster, transient response perfect for modern pop and drums.
The Transformers: The output stage offers a choice between a steel CineMag transformer (for more color and character) and a 50% nickel variant (for a flatter, more transparent response). You can even bypass the transformer entirely for the purest reproduction.
The Capacitors: Even at the component level, you have control. Switch between tantalum capacitors for a vintage focus or electrolytic ones for more transparent reproduction.
Maximum Gain and Saturation
With a whopping 71 dB of gain, the TB12-B is powerful enough for the most insensitive ribbon microphones. Thanks to the Output Gain control, you can fully open up the input gain to make the internal components “sing” and add harmonic distortion, while keeping the final volume to your DAW in perfect control.
Perfect for Instruments and Line Signals
The TB12-B doesn’t just excel on microphones. Thanks to its Hi-Z input on the front, it’s a great DI for bass guitars and synths. Plus, the line input on the back lets you send full mixes or stems through the Tone Beast to give them that coveted analog “glue” and warmth.
