Moog DFAM
Moog’s Drummer From Another Mother takes an inventive take on conventional percussion synthesis.
The Moog DFAM, is a percussion-focused analog synthesizer with a built-in step sequencer. Again, Moog has applied a patch point panel, in case you haven’t been sucked into an alternate dimension yet.
Nobody thinks of crazy product names like Moog and as such the Drummer From Another Mother really needs no further comment. Luckily, moog DFAM rolls off the tongue nicely, so let’s leave it at that.
On paper, the moog appears to outperform its predecessor, the Mother-32, in a number of areas. Admittedly, it lacks MIDI and the patchbay is a little less extensive, but it does have 2 VCOs, oscillator sync and three envelopes (slightly simplified for percussion spound design). With such wide frequency knobs it’s not ideal for melodic use, but it can be done. The internal sequencer, especially suited to drum sequencing, isn’t the first choice for accurate melodic sequencing – but again, with patience it’s achievable. However, this would miss the point somewhat as the focus is so clearly on electronic percussion.
The moog Drummer From Another Mother experience is immediate, enjoyable and most of all immersive keep an eye on the time before you know it’s dark
