The solution of acoustic problems
Most (home) studios are built with parallel walls. This is convenient for the design and layout of the room, but acoustically it creates considerable challenges. One of the biggest problems is primary reflections: sound waves that bounce off the walls from the speakers or microphone and are sent back into the room. These reflections mix with the direct sound, leading to phase cancellation and a distorted frequency response, better known as comb filtering. The result? You don’t hear the real sound, so your mix doesn’t sound right on other systems.
The Primacoustic London 8 room kit addresses this problem purposefully. The set includes four Control Columns, strategically designed to absorb early reflections. By placing them close to the sound source, they create a controlled listening area in which you get a clearer, more honest soundstage. That way, you hear exactly what’s happening in your mix – without the confusion of unwanted reflections.
The cure for flutter echo
When you clap your hands in your room, much of what you hear is a flutter echo – basically reflected sound from the walls, ceiling and floor. In a room this vibrant, it’s nearly impossible to add the right amount of reverb to your mix. The eight Scatter Blocks in the London 8 room kit are usually installed behind the listening position to help disperse the flutter echo by absorbing some of the sound energy and reflecting some of the energy back. This provides a more natural sound at the listening position.
Special foam
Primacoustic London 8 room kits are made of acoustic panels from Broadway. These panels aren’t quite what’s called conventional foam, as they’re made from high-density fiberglass at 6 pounds per cubic foot. This denser material offers nearly five times more absorption than typical foam. That means less foam on the wall and more absorption for a clean look and better sound.
