Ableton Live 11 CPU and Performance Issues

live 11 performance and cpu issues , we hear about it regularly, and we keep an eye on ea and offer a solution to the problem where possible

Ableton Live 11 & CPU load

11-5-2021 : Ableton 11.1 is on its way in Beta, they don’t talk about the performance issues, unfortunately but we do hear some good sounds 😉
so wait a while.

Look here for the release info

We regularly receive emails and phone calls about the performance of Live 11 and often read this back on the various forums and

We often receive 2 types of notifications, the first about the violent CPU meter and the second about the heavy CPU load, and relatively fast cracking and overload noises.

Live 11 overloads

We also notice that ableton 11 puts a heavy burden on the CPU of your audio PC and that it is not just a matter of the new metering in ableton 11 (the heading new metering in ableton 11).

Even on a new DAW computer with intel i9 and 32Gb memory the performance seems to be disappointing, a much older ableton live often seems to perform better on an outdated studio computer or notebook.
Ableton does not deny that there are problems and indicate that they are working on it but they are happy to point to the info about the “new” way of displaying CPU load.
Also on the site we come across few tips on how to improve the performance of ableton and your (windows) computer, apart from the right drivers and a larger buffer size of your audio interface.

We ourselves have the idea that we will gain something if we turn off hyper threading (win) and adjust the C-state settings, but don’t expect miracles.

Ableton says they are working on it, and the latest update should contain a small improvement.

We are in regular contact with ableton, keep an eye on the site, as soon as we have news about this topic we will inform you immediately

Improved CPU Metering in Live 11

Live version: 11
Operating System: Everything

CPU measurement in Live 11
Live now includes track-by-track CPU load measurement and an improved overall CPU load meter, which allows you to measure and respond more accurately while using Live.

Note: The CPU load meter may be more active in Live 11 and Live 11 suite when using the “Current” setting compared to Live 10. This is expected as the meter is now able to measure and display the total current CPU usage. The CPU meter in Live 10 can only measure the average CPU, so the meter fluctuates less often.

CPU load meters per track
CPU meters per track help you get a better overview of how much CPU each track is currently using by your Live Set. This feature is useful in both the studio and live environments, giving you a better overview of which elements can be adjusted for optimal performance.

Where is the CPU load meter per track?
You can view the CPU meter at the bottom of any MIDI or audio track in Session View.

How do I enable CPU load meters per track?
To enable this feature, navigate to the Show / Hide CPU Load Meter Section on the right side of Live’s Session View and select the “C” icon.

Improved overall CPU load meter
The improved CPU Load Meter now displays both current (total) CPU usage and average CPU usage.

24/6 Ableton is busy behind the scenes, she recently posted these tips, don’t expect miracles but every little bit helps,

We are going to work out these tips asap.
